I don’t have any really deep point here, it just struck me as an interesting bit of academic culture. It explains and quantifies three effects that classical physics cannot account for: The values of some measurable variables of a system, most notably the total energy of a bounded system, can attain only certain discrete values determined by the system. (The smallest possible jumps in the values of those observables are called "quanta" (Latin quantum, quantity), hence the name quantum mechanics.) Matter, classically described purely in terms of discrete particles moving in definite trajectories, exhibits properties of waves (see wave-particle duality ).

Show that the basis belonging to each of these irreducible representations. Sensible mathematics involves neglecting a quantity when it turns out to be small - not neglecting it just because it is infinitely great and you do not want it! (Dirac, 1937) Richard Feynman was obviously also aware of this problem, and had this to say about renormalisation. The cosmological constant could quite plausibly be exactly zero. (Physicists are still arguing on this point.) Even if the cosmological constant is not zero it is certainly small on a particle-physics scale, small on a human-engineering scale, and too tiny to be any plausible source of energy for human needs--not that we have any good ideas on how to accomplish large-scale manipulations of the cosmological constant anyway.
